Rot Congress III - the Prequel

Oct 23

YEAR ONE: We witnessed the unholy rite that brought the Hot Congress Collective back from the dead as ROT CONGRESS – a ghoulish band of ...bands hungry for human flesh. Only the the most desperate of last-ditch plans banished them back to the dark regions of nightmare hell.

YEAR TWO: The devilish hordes of ROT CONGRESS rose once more to plague the living with gruesome rock'n'roll damnation. They utterly destroyed human civilization as we know it and erased any possibility of future life on planet Earth.

The Don'ts and Be Carefuls: A Farewell Interview

Aug 30

After four years, much-loved Denver band The Don'ts and Be Carefuls are calling it a day. They play their final show Friday, August 31st at the Hi Dive, with I Sank Molly Brown, Hindershot, and Kissing Party. Frontman Casey Banker sat down with Jesse Livingston to talk about the band's origins and evolution, as well as plans for the future.

Jesse: How would you describe The DBC's music? I have a hard time categorizing it.

Casey: I know, right? I think at first I wanted it to be this electro dance band or something. That's what I was into in Greeley when I started the band. It was in 2008. I just tried to find some people who wanted to be in a band, who liked the idea. We just recruited anyone we could find who could sort of play their instruments. Everyone was really new at their instruments. Luke had just started drumming. I think Cody had been in one other band in high school. I had never been in a band, and I think the other guy – Tom – had never been in a band. We had a lot of growing pains... But, yeah, that's what I was going for at first. I turned into this indie rock thing, I guess. [laughs]

Jesse: So, did the music just develop organically as you went along, or did you have a certain thing you were aiming for?

The Blue Rider - Way Out West 7" Record Release this Saturday

Aug 23

Way Out West, the debut from Denver-based throwback garage-rockers The Blue Rider sounds right at home on 7” vinyl record. The title track’s yelping vocals and prominent organ and guitar riffing shows off the record’s great retro production values and charged-up songwriting. B-side THTD (short for too hip to dance) finds the band playing with the format, adding a spaced-out, spoken-word breakdown smack dab to the middle of a raucous Bo Diddley-style ditty.

Release Party details:

Hot Congress signs on as sponsor of Too Much Funstival

Aug 9

Hot Congress is pleased to announce that we will be one of the sponsors for Too Much Funstival, the Fine Gentleman's Club's all-over-Denver-four-day-mega-party aka the-most-aptly-named-festival-ever. We're putting together some really great music/merch packages that will be raffled off during the events, some of which will be free (and if not won't cost more than $5!) August 23rd-26th.

Here's what those Fine Gentlemen have in store for all of us:

Shepard Fairey, The Knew, The Outfit, Faceman, and Hindershot at Miami Steve's, Friday, August 3rd at 8pm!

Aug 1

You've seen street artist Shepard Fairey's iconic designs everywhere. He came up with the cult classic sticker featuring the face of Andre the Giant and the word OBEY -- part homage to John Carpenter's THEY LIVE and part surrealist curio. More famously, he designed the HOPE poster for Barack Obama's 2008 campaign. Although initially unofficial, the posters were later adopted and supported by the campaign, leading Obama to write Fairey and thank him when it was all over. It was a rare happy marriage of art and politics, and the poster was eventually placed in the permanent collection at the National Portrait Gallery.
