Well, it's here. The final night of our 3 week residency at the Meadowlark is this Thursday, and boy is it a doozy. Starting the night out with a one-time-only performance featuring the poetry of Ken Arkind set to the ambient sounds of Mostly Ghostly (aka Patrick Kelly of Hindershot and Amazing Twin.) Following them are the totally rad friends of Hot Congress, Night of Joy.
This Saturday, Fast Geek Boutique marks its grand opening with a celebration featuring music from Lizzie Huffman (Seattle, Suburban Home Records), Sorellina (Anna Mascarella of Matson Jones) and poetry from Charly "the City Mouse" Fasano. In advance of this celebration we caught up with co-proprietor Vinny Fasano, who gave us some insight into the all-local, community-centered theme of his new shop.

The Hot Congress Collective - my dearest, my love, my reason for being - was dead. What choice did I have? Yet when I began my experiments in earnest, they told me it shouldn’t be done! They said it would be an abomination against God! But I didn’t listen, and now we’ll all pay the price. The powers of hell have been unleashed upon the earth. By reciting the incantation three times backwards in ...the dark, I let loose 7 undead ghouls, 7 Bands of Beelzebub, upon the land.
The eagerly anticipated 3-day 'mini-festival' starts tonight!!! Taking place at the Weather Center (1401 Zuni, across/under the highway from the Auraria campus) tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday and featuring a dozen bands as well as DJs and products from several local merchants, the "Gathering of the Clouds" promises to be one of the most exciting music weekends in Denver all year! The event also serves as the CD release party for The Overcasters, Gangcharger, and the Buckingham Squares. Donation of $15 dollars wristband for 3 days/ or $8 a day.
Being a band from Montreal carries with it a certain reputation for bombast. But Suuns is different. Sounding like a modernized version of 70's kraut-rockers like Can, the four piece's (Ben Shemie- lead vocals, guitar, Liam O'Neill-drums, Max Henry- bass guitar, keys, Joe Yarmush- guitar/ bass guitar) metronomic and insistent beats, hyper-repetetive electronic loops, fuzzed out guitar lines, and more-rhythmic-than-melodic vocals ride along with an almost unrelenting restraint.
Suuns played their first Denver show a few weeks ago at the Larimer Lounge with Land of Talk and Achille Lauro. In advance of this show, we asked Suuns a few questions, but didn't get the responses in time to post before that show. Instead, we're posting the Q&A today, the release date of their first album for Secretly Canadian Records, "Zeroes QC." So check out our Q&A below, then go pick up the record - it's amazing!
Vitamins released this highly color-filtered workout video to the remix of their song, "Sequined Dress" only a week ago, but it has already garnered a steady stream of love from the Sphere'o'Blogs. Here's a list:
